Protection marking IP/IK
The protection factor against solids and liquids is an important point when choosing the enclosure. The protection index delivered by the enclosures of electrical equipment is defined by the French standard NF-EN 60529 of June 2000.
The higher the index, the more important the watertightness, but beware: a cabinet installed outside is subject to climatic constraints and therefore to temperature variations.
A totally sealed enclosure installed in an outdoor environment with high temperature variations must be ventilated very frequently and therefore lose 1 or 2 points on the protection index scale.
